One doctor Osita Chinedu has been killed in Anambra State by assailants suspected to be members of a car snatching syndicate.

The deceased, a lecturer in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was shot dead on Monday by the suspects in Awka, the State Capital.

The deceased was shot after a struggle ensued between him and the assailants for his car key, a source said.

It is not immediately clear if the men made a way with his car after shooting him, but it was gathered that the victim died on the spot at around 7pm.

A staff of Unizik who alerted other colleagues on the development said, “Yes someone was shot dead along that high tension this evening. They are saying that he is a lecturer from UNIZIK, from Nteje.

“Please, Comrades, let’s be safe during this Yuletide. If they come for your car, surrender the car, our lives are important.”

“Any Comrade close to the high tension axis should confirm the news that a Unizik lecturer was shot dead this night,” the source who is also a staff of the university announced to his colleagues.

Reacting on the condition of anonymity, another Staff of UNIZIK said, “A colleague and fellow sports enthusiast shot dead yesterday’s night. This is no longer funny.”

“We and our children are no longer safe in this State. A whole Capital City,” the visibly furious lecturer said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga was yet to react to the incident
