  • The Federal Road Safety Corps urges passengers to report reckless driving, emphasizing that safety is vital during the festive season
  • FRSC launched public awareness campaigns to educate drivers and passengers about safe behaviours, aiming to reduce road traffic crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State has called on passengers to speak up against reckless driving during transit, emphasizing that safety is crucial for celebrating the festive season.

Aliyu Ma’aji, the FRSC Sector Commander, made this appeal during a Special Marshals and Ember Months Campaign held at the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA) terminal on Friday.

The 2024 campaign is themed: “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Road Traffic Crash Kills More Passengers Than Drivers.”

Ma’aji stressed the importance of drivers following traffic rules to ensure safer roads. He also encouraged passengers to assert their rights by calling out irresponsible driving behaviours, noting that proactive action can save lives.

Ma’aji said the command has launched various activities to reduce road traffic crashes (RTCs) during the festive season. These include public awareness campaigns at motor parks, places of worship, markets, and other public spaces.

He also commended the state government for its well-maintained road network, which contributes to minimizing accidents.

Peter Gyang, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, highlighted the need for educating drivers and passengers on behaviours that could lead to highway accidents.

He urged drivers to continue obeying traffic regulations to ensure safer journeys.

Alhaji Shattima Muhammad, the chairman of the park and a Special Marshal, appreciated the FRSC for choosing their motor park for the campaign.

He encouraged drivers to take the advice seriously and work toward an accident-free yuletide and beyond.
