- Efforts to locate his family have so far been unsuccessful
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has rescued an eight-year-old boy, Divine Chisimdi Onyejiaka, who fled his home to avoid being disciplined by his mother.
The child, a resident of Okpoko in the Ogbaru Local Government Area and a pupil at St. Raphael Nursery/Primary School, was found wandering in Awka without a clear destination.
In a statement on Monday, NSCDC spokesperson Okadigbo Edwin said the boy was brought to the command headquarters by a concerned citizen on December 20. Preliminary investigations revealed that he left home after a disciplinary incident with his mother, Mrs. Nnenna Onyejiaka.
“The circumstances surrounding his journey from Okpoko to Awka remain unclear, as he was unable to provide a coherent explanation,” Edwin said.
Efforts to locate his family have so far been unsuccessful. Onyejiaka is currently in the care of the NSCDC’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit while the command seeks public assistance to trace his relatives.
Anyone with information about the boy’s family is urged to contact the NSCDC Anambra Command at 08035771835.
