FCT Correctional Service Tightens Security Ahead of Festive Season

The command has also warned officers against unprofessional behaviours

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has enhanced security measures across its custodial centres to ensure safety during the festive season.

The command has also warned officers against unprofessional behaviours, such as trafficking, incitement, and laxity, urging them to remain committed to their duties throughout and after the Christmas celebrations.

The security initiative, led by the Controller of Corrections, Olatubosun Ajibogun, involves deploying officers to strategic positions around the facilities. This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Adamu Duza, on Tuesday.

During an oversight visit to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Ajibogun emphasised the importance of vigilance and professionalism. He also highlighted the need for the humane treatment of inmates, urging staff to adhere to global best practices.

“Controller Ajibogun cautioned officers against trafficking, incitement, laxity, and any unprofessional conduct during and after the Christmas celebration,” the statement read.

He further called on staff and inmates to strictly comply with established rules and support the officers in charge to maintain peace and order within the facilities.

These measures are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and uphold standards in correctional centres during the holiday period.
