- The APC criticized the PDP for politicizing recent stampedes, stating such tragedies should not be exploited for political gain during mourning
- APC’s Felix Morka reminded the PDP of a similar stampede in 2014, emphasizing their record of maladministration and incompetence
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly politicizing recent tragic stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja.
The incidents, which claimed multiple lives, were described by the APC as too sensitive to be exploited for political gain.
In a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party blamed the widespread food stampedes on the “insensitive, corrupt, and rudderless Tinubu-led APC government.”
The statement further labelled the tragedies as a reflection of the severe poverty, hunger, and desperation currently affecting many Nigerians.
Responding on Monday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, dismissed the PDP’s remarks as indecent and insensitive.
He reminded the opposition of a similar tragic stampede during a Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise in 2014 under the PDP’s administration.
“It is grossly inappropriate for the PDP to exploit these tragic incidents in a senseless attack against an administration working to repair the damage caused by nearly two decades of PDP misrule,” Morka stated.
The APC emphasized that Nigerians have not forgotten the loss of lives during the 2014 recruitment exercise at the Abuja stadium.
The event saw many job seekers perish or sustain injuries while seeking employment under the PDP-led government.
“The PDP’s accusations only serve as a stark reminder of its dismal record of maladministration and incompetence,” the APC added.
The ruling party dismissed the PDP’s claims that the Tinubu administration lacks commitment to Nigerians’ welfare, describing such assertions as either “mischievous or entirely out of touch with reality.”
The APC reiterated its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Nigerians and repairing the alleged “ruins” left by the PDP’s years in power.
