- Starting January 1, Van Dijk can negotiate with clubs outside England but prefers to remain at Liverpool
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has stated that there is “no deadline” for resolving his contract situation, even as the expiration of his current deal draws closer.
The 33-year-old Netherlands international’s contract is set to end this season. Starting January 1, he will be free to negotiate terms with clubs outside England.
Despite this, Van Dijk has expressed a preference to remain at Anfield.
“There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings. Is there an update? No,” Van Dijk told reporters, signalling that discussions about his future are ongoing.
Van Dijk is not the only key Liverpool player nearing the end of his contract. Fellow stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are also entering the final six months of their respective deals.
Liverpool fans will be watching closely as the club seeks to secure the futures of its pivotal players.
