- Encouraged workers to use the extended holiday to engage in agricultural activities to boost food security
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Tuesday declared a two-week holiday for civil servants in the state to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
Workers are also encouraged to use the extended holiday to engage in agricultural activities to boost food security.
The governor made the announcement during a press briefing at Government House, Makurdi.
He stated that the holiday will commence on December 24 and end on January 6, 2025.
According to the governor, the purpose of the extended holiday is to allow workers in the state to enjoy the festive season with their loved ones and utilize the period for farming activities to enhance food security in the state.
“I urge you to take advantage of this long holiday to focus on your agricultural pursuits by engaging in farming activities to ensure an abundance of food in the state,” Alia said.
The governor, however, clarified that essential services such as banks, energy providers, and security agencies are exempted from the holiday.
Alia also advised the people of the state to continue embracing the spirit of love and peace while remaining committed to building a better Benue State.
