- The Justice for Afe Babalola Legacy group called for fairness in legal proceedings involving Dele Farotimi’s allegations against Afe Babalola
- JABL emphasized the need for careful scrutiny of claims, asserting that Farotimi’s accusations unfairly tarnish Babalola’s significant contributions to law
An advocacy group, Justice for Afe Babalola Legacy (JABL), has called for fairness in the legal proceedings involving human rights advocate Dele Farotimi and legal icon Afe Babalola. The group expressed confidence in the judiciary’s ability to deliver justice.
Farotimi’s book, Nigeria Criminal Justice System, accuses Aare Afe Babalola of corrupting the judiciary. The allegations have sparked a heated legal battle, with JABL determined to protect Babalola’s legacy.
Speaking in Ibadan on Tuesday, Rotimi Opeyeoluwa, JABL’s publicity secretary, stressed the need to scrutinise the claims. He said it is crucial to ensure the truth emerges without bias.
JABL’s convener, Comrade Femi Alufa, emphasized that Farotimi’s allegations have unfairly harmed Babalola’s reputation.
He noted that the accusations overshadow Babalola’s significant contributions to the legal profession.
“This case goes beyond defending an individual. It challenges injustices in our judicial system,” Alufa said. He described the legal battle as vital for protecting fairness and preserving a legacy that inspires future generations.
Alufa added, “The judiciary is a temple of justice where truth must prevail. Baseless claims should not undermine Aare Afe Babalola’s towering achievements.”
He concluded that this is not a simple confrontation but a critical moment to uphold justice and protect reputations from unfounded allegations.
