The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has revealed that 30,313 suspected criminals were arrested nationwide between January and December 2024.

Speaking at the Force Headquarters in Abuja during an end-of-year meeting with Commissioners of Police and strategic commanders, Egbetokun highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s achievements in 2024.

The IGP reported that 1,581 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 1,984 firearms and 23,250 rounds of ammunition were recovered within the year under review.

The meeting, which also served as a platform to outline strategies for 2025, emphasized the need for innovation and adaptability in tackling emerging security challenges.

“In 2024, the Nigeria Police Force recorded major successes in combating crime, including the arrest of 30,313 suspects for various heinous offences, the recovery of 1,984 assorted firearms, and the rescue of 1,581 victims from kidnappers,” Egbetokun said.

He commended officers for their dedication and underscored the importance of community engagement and collaboration in reducing crime.

The IGP encouraged senior officers to adopt modern tools and strategies to enhance the Force’s effectiveness in crime prevention and investigation.

“As we approach the festive season, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to implementing robust security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens,” he added.

Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the Force’s 2025 agenda would focus on leveraging technology and operational efficiency to improve public safety and maintain law and order.
