- Prophet Olu Alo defended Oriyomi Hamzat and Naomi Silekunola, emphasizing their good intentions in organizing the Christmas event that led to tragedy
- Alo urged for fairness and understanding, stating that the duo has significantly contributed to helping children and should not be unjustly blamed
Prophet Olu Alo, a prominent cleric, has spoken in defense of Oriyomi Hamzat, owner of Agidigbo FM, and Naomi Silekunola, ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, following the tragic stampede in Ibadan that claimed the lives of over 40 children.
The incident, which occurred during a Christmas event, led to the detention of Hamzat and Naomi on charges of conspiracy, negligence, and failure to provide adequate security and medical services.
Prophet Alo, who leads the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Adamimogo Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain, described both individuals as compassionate and dedicated to helping the less privileged.
He emphasized that their intentions for organizing the event were good.
In a statement, the cleric expressed hope for their release, stating, “If their hearts are genuinely clean, they will overcome this ordeal.” He extended prayers and condolences to the families of the victims, urging them to find strength in this difficult time.
Addressing the public’s reaction, Alo said, “Our society often fails to appreciate the efforts of philanthropists. Both Naomi and Oriyomi have contributed immensely to helping children.
Oriyomi runs an orphanage and has always cared deeply for children. Similarly, Queen Naomi has uplifted many children through her NGO. This unfortunate event does not define their intentions.”
He called for fairness and understanding, urging people not to blame the duo based on past grievances or assumptions. “What many people wish for them will not happen because truthful individuals will not suffer unjustly,” he added.
Prophet Alo also appealed to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to show mercy during their trial, considering their positive contributions to society.
“To the families of the deceased, I deeply sympathize with your loss. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this pain,” he said.
The cleric concluded by condemning unfounded speculations about the incident and reiterated his belief that both Hamzat and Naomi acted with good intentions.
