Chief Imam Calls for Accountability from President Tinubu During Jumat Prayers

The Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Lagos, Sheikh Ridhwan Jamiu, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain accountable and responsible to the Nigerian people in his leadership.

The appeal came on Friday during the Jumat prayer, which President Tinubu attended at the Lekki Central Mosque, marking his first public appearance following the cancellation of earlier engagements due to recent tragic stampedes across the country.

Imam Jamiu emphasized the importance of gratitude and patience, urging Nigerians to thank Allah in times of blessings and persevere through challenges.

Addressing President Tinubu, he offered prayers for wisdom, peace, and prosperity in leading the nation.

“We are proud of you. We encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns, and we thank God that you have not disappointed us. We know you are capable, sagacious, and competent,” he said.

He reminded the President of the weight of trust Allah and the people placed on him, stressing the need for righteousness and justice.

“Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, ‘The most beloved of all people to Allah is the righteous and just leader.’”

The imam lauded Tinubu’s past record of praiseworthy actions and expressed hope that his current leadership would reflect the same virtues.

“You bear one of the names of Prophet Muhammad, Ahmed, meaning someone who does what is praiseworthy. This name has reflected in your past actions, and we hope it will reflect in your actions now,” Imam Jamiu concluded.

The imam assured President Tinubu of steadfast prayers and unwavering support from the Muslim community, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria towards a brighter future.
