Former senator Shehu Sani has rejected claims by Niger Republic President Abdourahamane Tchiani that Nigeria supports the Lakurawa terrorist group. Sani called the allegations baseless and laughable.
In an interview with Radio-Télévision du Niger, President Tchiani alleged that Nigeria was collaborating with France to destabilize Niger.
However, Sani, a political and social activist, dismissed these accusations and urged both nations to unite against terrorism and cross-border crimes.
On Friday, Sani responded via X, calling Tchiani’s claims an “imaginary conspiracy theory” without credible evidence.
“The specific claim made by the President of Niger Republic about Nigeria’s complicity in forming the Lakurawa terrorist group is baseless,” Sani wrote.
“For a country like Nigeria, which has endured over a decade of kidnappings and bloodshed from terrorists, it’s inconceivable that such a group could ever be harbored here.
“Niger President’s claims are wild conjectures—hollow, superstitious, and lacking credible evidence,” he added.
Sani emphasized the need for collaboration, stating that the best path forward is for Nigeria and Niger to work together in confronting shared security threats.
