- The Arewa Think Tank refuted Niger’s military leader Tchiani’s claims of Nigeria colluding with France to destabilize Niger as baseless propaganda
- ATT urged politicians to prioritize governance over accusations, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to peace and stability in the region
The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has strongly refuted accusations made by Niger’s military leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani. He alleged that Nigeria is working with France to destabilize Niger.
In a statement on Friday, ATT’s convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, dismissed the claims as baseless. He attributed them to desperate politicians aiming to frustrate President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Yakubu warned against damaging Nigeria’s diplomatic relationship with Niger. He urged politicians to focus on governance, saying, “Elections are over; governance should now take center stage. Wait for the next election instead of destabilizing the nation.”
The group stressed Nigeria’s history of promoting peace and stability. “Nigeria has no record of supporting terrorism or interfering in Niger’s affairs,” the statement added.
ATT highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in ECOWAS, with President Tinubu advocating dialogue to address Niger’s political challenges.
It also dismissed allegations about a supposed terrorist headquarters in Sokoto State, calling them unfounded and misleading.
