- Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, criticised the reforms for favouring states like Lagos while ignoring the survival struggles of most Nigerians
Some northern politicians have called on President Bola Tinubu to consider the National Economic Council’s (NEC) position on the contentious tax reform bills, which governors have criticised as hasty and inequitable.
Despite NEC’s advice to withdraw the bills for further consultations, Tinubu recently declared the reforms irreversible, prompting backlash from governors, including Bauchi State’s Bala Mohammed, who warned of potential political fallout.
Former Arewa Consultative Forum Secretary General Anthony Sani clarified that opposition to the reforms is not limited to the northern region, emphasising that NEC, representing all 36 state governors, advocates for further discussions.
Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, criticised the reforms for favouring states like Lagos while ignoring the survival struggles of most Nigerians. He urged the government to prioritise citizens’ well-being over politically divisive policies.
