Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has been named the 2024 Igbo Man of the Year by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group.
Umahi, former Ebonyi State governor, outshone notable figures such as Peter Obi, Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu to clinch the title.
Ohanaeze Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, highlighted Umahi’s exemplary leadership in rehabilitating federal roads in the Southeast using innovative cement technology, creating jobs, and enhancing security. His efforts in fostering harmony between the Southeast and the Federal Government were also praised.
The group’s evaluation, based on the “Igbo Performance Perimeters and Indexes,” found Umahi’s infrastructure achievements and regional advocacy unparalleled.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu ranked second among National Assembly members, while Enugu Governor Peter Mba and Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwaifuru were commended for promoting local government autonomy and transparency.
Ohanaeze urged leaders to emulate Umahi’s dedication to progress and service.
