- The accident was caused by the dusty road conditions
A vehicle in the convoy of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia was reported to have killed a man and injured another in an accident on Sunday.
The incident occurred at Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area, where the governor has been celebrating Christmas. Sources said the accident was caused by poor visibility from dust on the untarred road, which led one of the vehicles in the convoy to veer off the road and ram into a motorcycle.
“The governor was heading to church when one of the vehicles in the convoy, unable to see clearly due to the dust, hit a motorcycle. One person died, and another sustained injuries,” a source told our correspondent.
However, Solomon Iorpev, the governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, clarified that the vehicle involved was not part of a convoy at the time of the accident.
“The vehicle was on an independent mission when it collided with a motorcycle while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The accident was caused by the dusty road conditions,” Iorpev explained. He expressed regret over the incident but did not confirm the casualty details.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, stated that the case had not been officially reported to the command.
