- The command PRO, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the command had already swung into action and deployed personnel to rescue the two clerics from their abductors.
Gunmen terrorising Nigeria’s northeast region have abducted two pastors in Adamawa State.
The abducted clerics are pastors at the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, better known as Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa A Nigeria, EYN.
The EYN is a church denomination with headquarters in Kwarhi, Adamawa State and church branches mostly in Adamawa State and the rest of the North East.
The victims are identified as resident pastor, Rev James Kwaywng of EYN LCCN Mbila-Malibu in Song Local Government Area; and his Secretary, Rev Ishaku Chiwar.
According to the state police command, the duo were abducted in the night of Sunday, December 29.
The command PRO, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the command had already swung into action and deployed personnel to rescue the two clerics from their abductors.
The EYN President, Rev. Daniel Mbaya, who also confirmed the abduction, urged security personnel to take immediate action to ensure the safe release of the pastors.
He urged the EYN church family and other Nigerians to join in praying for the release.
He said: “We call all Nigerians and the entire EYN community to join us in prayers for the safe and speedy release of the two men of God,” he said, adding, “This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the EYN community, and we request your prayers and support during this difficult time.”
He added in his response to inquiry just before noon Monday that the church was yet to hear from the abductors.
“The abductors are yet to be identified and they have not contacted the church or the families of their abductees,” the EYN President said in a telephone interview.
