The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army dismantled 20 illegal oil refining sites, recovered 90,000 litres of stolen petroleum products, and arrested eight suspects in a major operation across Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States from December 23 to 29, 2024.
Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma, stated that the operation, conducted with security agencies, also deactivated 21 boats used for illegal activities.
Troops seized 37,000 litres of stolen condensates near Buguma in Asari-Toru LGA, 9,000 litres of kerosene, and arrested three suspects after engaging criminals in a gunfight. In Degema LGA, they intercepted 2,000 litres of crude oil, fibre boats, and wooden boats, while in Omoku, 27 ovens and 31 sacks of stolen products were confiscated.
Bayelsa operations uncovered an illegal refining site with 8,000 litres of stolen products, and Akwa Ibom troops seized 11 drums of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and an additional 31 drums intended for smuggling.
