- The North-Central APC Forum cautioned SGF George Akume against actions that could push Governor Hyacinth Alia out of the party
- The forum warned that if Alia defects, Akume will be held responsible, emphasizing the need to retain him for stability
The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has cautioned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, to avoid actions that could disqualify Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State from the party.
Following a meeting in Abuja, the forum expressed concern over what it described as coordinated media attacks on Governor Alia, allegedly orchestrated by faceless groups.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the forum warned that such tactics could weaken the party’s standing in Benue ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If Governor Alia defects to another party, as was the case with former Governor Samuel Ortom, who left the APC for the PDP, the SGF, Senator George Akume, will be held responsible,” the forum stated.
The group emphasized the importance of retaining Governor Alia, citing his performance in office and the need for stability within the party.
“The APC cannot afford to lose Benue State or Governor Alia, who has been delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
Senator Akume and his allies should refrain from distractions that could derail the governor’s efforts,” the statement added.
Reacting to the allegations, SGF spokesperson Terrence Kuanum dismissed the claims as baseless, accusing the forum of attempting to tarnish Akume’s reputation.
“There is no truth to the claim that the SGF is behind media attacks on Governor Alia,” Kuanum said.
He further criticized Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga for contradicting his earlier praise of Akume’s leadership. “It is shocking that Zazzaga, who previously commended the SGF for his purposeful leadership during the North Central APC meeting in Jos, is now making unfounded accusations,” he added.
The SGF’s office reiterated Akume’s commitment to providing leadership and support for the APC in Benue and the North-Central region.
