Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support for the re-election bid of the state’s incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
Fayemi disclosed this over the weekend during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in his hometown, Isan-Ekiti.
Addressing party members, Fayemi, a former Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) chairman, emphasized the need for unity within the APC to ensure victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. He urged party leaders and members to avoid actions that could create divisions.
“We must prepare for the task ahead as we await INEC’s announcement of the election date. If we remain united and resolute here in Ekiti, those in Abuja will have no choice but to align with us,” Fayemi said.
He also reassured stakeholders concerned about Tinubu’s stance on Oyebanji’s candidacy. “I hear some people say, ‘What if President Bola Tinubu doesn’t support him?’ Let me clarify: our president is fully behind Governor Oyebanji,” he added.
The meeting was a rallying call for APC members in Ekiti to consolidate their efforts and strengthen their chances of retaining the governorship seat in the next election cycle.
