Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to developing the Igbo people.
He highlighted the creation of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a significant step in addressing the region’s infrastructure needs.
On Saturday, Kalu praised Tinubu’s efforts at an empowerment programme organized by Chris Nkwonta, the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency lawmaker.
The event, held in Ndoki, Ukwa East LGA, Abia State, also witnessed the defection of over 3,000 individuals from various political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu noted that more defections to the APC are expected, citing growing support for the president due to the establishment of the SEDC.
“The president has done a lot for Ndigbo and continues to do so. He is the only leader who remembered Ndigbo after 54 years since the promise of reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation was made,” Kalu said.
He referred to the three Rs programme former military ruler Yakubu Gowon initiated to promote healing and rebuilding after the Nigerian Civil War, which ended in 1970. However, Kalu emphasized that Tinubu’s actions signify a renewed commitment to fulfilling these promises.
Establishing the SEDC is a milestone in addressing longstanding developmental gaps in the Southeast region, fostering hope for better infrastructure and opportunities.
