The Kano State Government has included prisoners in its healthcare contributory scheme to ensure they have access to free and quality medical services.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano Command, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, announced this in a press statement on Monday.
Dr. Rahila Aliyu-Mukhtar, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Healthcare Management Agency (KHMA), highlighted the initiative during a visit to the State Controller of Corrections, Ado Salisu. She revealed that the scheme, approved by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, aims to enhance inmates’ welfare by providing them with basic and comprehensive healthcare services at no cost.
“The health and medical welfare of inmates are essential for efficient custodial management, as well as for their effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration,” Aliyu-Mukhtar stated.
She also reassured the state government’s commitment to supporting inmates’ medical needs during their incarceration and urged them to pray for the governor’s continued efforts in delivering democratic dividends.
