- The invitation is aimed at allowing Obasanjo to authenticate the operational status of the oil processing facility in Rivers State.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo for a tour and inspection of the Port Harcourt Refinery.
The state-owned oil company extended the invitation in a statement on Thursday.
According to NNPCL, the invitation is aimed at allowing Obasanjo to authenticate the operational status of the oil processing facility in Rivers State.
The ex-president, in an interview with Channels Television, recounted how he did everything to get the Port Harcourt refinery and other refineries to work again but his efforts yielded no results.
He also disclosed how his successor cancelled an agreement with businessman, Aliko Dangote, to revive the moribond refinery.
However, NNPCL highlighted its achievements and encouraged Obasanjo to visit the facility.
The company commended Obasanjo for his contribution to Nigeria growth.
“We extend an invitation to our esteemed former president to join us in this historic journey. His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and we deeply appreciate his insights and guidance, which will always be welcomed and cherished.
“Additionally, we warmly invite President Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated refineries and witness firsthand the progress made under the leadership of NNPC Limited.
“We remain grateful for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s development and are committed to building a brighter, more prosperous future for our nation. Together, we can continue to ensure energy security and deliver sustainable value to all Nigerians,” NNPCL stated.
