The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Anambra State Government to reclaim the state’s forests from criminals.
NFSS Commander Destiny Jonas, in a statement on Thursday, said their expertise in forest operations would be critical in tackling insecurity, including the abduction of an Anglican bishop, the killing of a Catholic priest, and the massacre of eight people in Ihiala on 30 December 2024.
“NFSS is ready to join forces with other security agencies to ensure the success of Operation Udo Ga Di Na, aimed at eliminating criminal elements in the hinterlands,” he said. Jonas noted that insecurity is driving investors away and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to restore safety.
The NFSS has identified flashpoints in forests across Anambra and will begin operations in January 2025 to dismantle criminal camps. Jonas added that remote areas like Achala and Igbariam have remained secure due to the presence of NFSS operatives.
