The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning against any attacks or killings of police personnel across the country.
During a two-day visit to the Enugu State Police Command, he emphasized that such actions would no longer be tolerated.
Egbetokun made it clear that any assault on a police officer would be treated as a criminal act and dealt with decisively.
He stated, “An assault on any police personnel is not just a crime; it is an assault on me. In 2025, we will not condone any attack on our officers. Wherever such incidents occur, the response must be swift and appropriate.”
To strengthen the force, the IGP also announced plans for comprehensive training and retraining programs for police personnel nationwide.
He noted that professionalism, discipline, and competence would be key priorities in the new year.
Egbetokun highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers.
He commended the president for recognizing the sacrifices made by law enforcement in maintaining security across the nation.
During his visit, the IGP praised the efforts of the Enugu State Police Command in ensuring safety in the region.
He lauded the leadership of the state police commissioner, the officers, and the support from the state government and residents.
“I am impressed with your achievements and conduct. The governor himself has spoken highly of your efforts. In 2025, with additional support, your results will be even greater,” Egbetokun assured.
This strong stance by the IGP underscores the resolve of the police force to protect its personnel and enhance security nationwide.
