A violent confrontation erupted on Friday in the Hallelujah community of Egbedore Local Government Area, Osun State, as residents attacked the newly installed Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Oba Jelili Olaiya, during a Jumat service.

The monarch, appointed a few months ago by the Timi of Ede against the wishes of the Ido-Osun community, was beaten by enraged youths who argued he had no authority to install a Chief Imam or conduct prayers in the area.

Reports indicate that Oba Olaiya recently turbaned Ahmad Tijjani as Chief Imam of the Hallelujah community. However, while attempting to lead Jumat prayers at his palace, youths believed to be from Ido-Osun disrupted the gathering.

Witnesses said the agitated youths vandalised the palace and attacked the monarch, questioning his jurisdiction in what they claimed was another ruler’s domain.

A security source, speaking anonymously, revealed that Oba Olaiya sustained severe injuries during the assault. “The situation escalated, resulting in the vandalisation of the palace. Security operatives rescued the monarch and took him to the State CID for further investigation and safety,” the source said.

Another source disclosed that the monarch is receiving treatment at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Security, Samuel Ojo, confirmed the incident but declined to comment further, pending the outcome of an investigation.
