- NNPP Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa accused the APC of undermining democracy and predicted a significant defeat for President Tinubu in 2027
- Dungurawa criticized the APC’s economic policies for worsening ordinary Nigerians’ lives, urging a focus on alleviating suffering rather than suppressing opposition
The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining democracy by pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state.
Speaking in Kano on Thursday, he also forecasted a major defeat for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections due to policies he described as harmful to the masses.
Dungurawa criticized the APC-led government for suppressing political opposition and imposing economic policies that, he claimed, have worsened the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
He stated, “With your anti-masses policies, expect defeat in the next general election. Either you change them, or Nigerians will replace you.”
He pointed to President Tinubu’s inauguration speech on May 29, 2023, as the start of “a deliberate attack on the livelihoods of Nigerians.”
According to Dungurawa, the administration has continued to enforce unfriendly policies, deepening hardship across the country.
The NNPP chairman expressed confidence in his party’s ability to challenge APC dominance nationwide. “The challenges created by the APC government will only strengthen our resolve. By 2027, we will ensure Tinubu is out, and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, a true democrat, takes over,” he asserted.
Dungurawa also praised the NNPP-led government in Kano State, claiming it has achieved significant progress. “Kano can now compete with any modern city globally,” he said, emphasizing the state’s achievements under NNPP leadership.
He voiced concern about what he called deliberate efforts by the APC to suppress opposition parties and consolidate power. “The Federal Government is working to silence opposition voices and impose a one-party system. This is a dangerous trend for our democracy and the future of Nigeria,” he warned.
Dungurawa urged the government to focus on policies that alleviate the suffering of the masses rather than stifle political diversity.
Addressing rumours about the NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, rejoining the APC, Dungurawa dismissed them as baseless.
He argued that the rumours were fabricated to undermine Kwankwaso’s reputation and influence. “Kwankwaso remains fully committed to the NNPP and its vision for a better Nigeria,” he affirmed.
The NNPP leader concluded by calling for collective efforts to restore democratic balance and prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
