According to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has acquired 12 new fighter jets to enhance its combat capabilities.
The new aircraft include two King Air 360i light transport planes, four T-129 ATAK helicopters, two Agusta Westland 109 Trekker helicopters, and four DA-62 surveillance planes.
Abubakar disclosed this during an interaction with NAF veterans in Kaduna on Sunday.
He also revealed that NAF is set to receive 24 M-346 fighter jets and 10 more Agusta Westland 109 Trekker helicopters from Italy in the coming months.
Additionally, two more T-129 ATAK helicopters from Turkey, three CASA 295 transport planes from Spain, and 12 AH-1Z Viper helicopters from the United States are expected to join the fleet soon.
Speaking on the acquisitions, Abubakar stated:
“The Nigerian Air Force is committed to becoming a more effective and agile force capable of addressing the country’s security challenges. We have made significant progress in the last 18 months and are determined to sustain this momentum.”
The new aircraft acquisitions underscore NAF’s dedication to enhancing its operational capabilities and effectively addressing Nigeria’s security needs.
