- The governor mandated the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council to investigate the allegations against the village head and his council and make recommendations.
Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has authorized the immediate suspension of Chief Okon Archibong, Village Head of Esuk Utan, along with his council members.
The decision was made public through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nsa Gil, in Calabar on Monday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the suspension stems from allegations of misconduct by the traditional ruler and his council, prompting multiple petitions.
Governor Otu tasked the Calabar Municipal Traditional Rulers Council with investigating the allegations and providing recommendations.
“Report on findings and recommendations should be sent to the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy Affairs within one week.
“The Obutong Clan Council is mandated to set up a five-man committee to manage the affairs of Esuk Utan Village pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Otu urged residents and business owners in Esuk Utan to continue their daily activities, while avoiding interactions with the suspended village head and his council.
