The federal government has launched a free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy to position Nigeria as a leader in the global digital economy.
Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, inaugurated the academy in Abuja. He announced that the initiative partners with the Commonwealth Secretariat and Intel Corporation.
Chief Nnaji emphasized that the online program is free and urged students, youths, and civil servants to develop advanced AI skills.
“Registration is now open and will close on January 30, 2025. Visit our website at https://scienceandtech.gov.ng/academy to join this transformative program,” he said.
The minister described the academy as more than a training platform, calling it a gateway to equipping Nigerians with the knowledge to lead in a world shaped by AI.
“AI is reshaping industries, solving complex problems, and opening new economic opportunities. It’s essential for Nigeria to not only keep up but lead the charge,” Nnaji stated.
The program offers self-paced courses covering AI fundamentals, ethics, tools, and practical applications. Participants will also be able to compete for AI ambassadorial roles and internships with Intel Corporation, gaining global hands-on experience.
Nnaji highlighted AI’s critical role in nation-building, describing it as a transformative tool that can revolutionize agriculture, healthcare, education, security, and other sectors.
“By equipping Nigerians with these skills, we’re not just preparing them for jobs; we’re creating a generation of innovators and leaders who will shape the future of Nigeria’s economy and technology,” he said.
