Troops from 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have eliminated Sani Rusu, a notorious terrorist kingpin, in Zamfara state.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, disclosed that the troops achieved this feat over the weekend during a fighting patrol in Bamamu Village, Tsafe Local Government Area.
The statement added that Operation Fansan Yamma troops ambushed terrorists at Kwanar Jollof in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State, neutralizing some and injuring others.
Troops also seized an AK47 rifle, a G3 rifle, ammunition, magazines, and motorcycles.
In a separate operation, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma launched airstrikes on terrorists gathered between Fakai and Kware areas of Shinkafi LGA on December 30, 2024.
The airstrikes targeted terrorists led by Bello Turji, who had convened a meeting in the area.
On January 2, 2025, the Air Component conducted further airstrikes at Maikaman Rini area of Sububu Forest, supporting ground troops operations against Ibrahim Chumo’s camp.
Troops also launched offensive operations against Bello Turji’s camp in Chida area of Shinkafi on January 5, 2025.
Aerial surveillance showed that terrorists suffered significant casualties, with several injured and hideouts destroyed.
Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats and maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Joint Task Force encouraged community cooperation to achieve its mandate.
