- The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) launched WASSCE PC1, allowing candidates to resit exams in January and February 2025
- Registration for the new initiative is open until January 8, 2025, providing a quicker path for students to improve grades
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a new initiative allowing candidates to resit their WASSCE papers as early as January and February 2025.
This development marks a significant change from the previous system, which required candidates to wait for the next private exam cycle.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, announced the initiative, named WASSCE PC1, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana.
He explained, “Students who check their results and realize they must resit one or two papers have until January 8th to register. Registration can be done online via our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The exams will run from January 24th to February 15th, 2025.”
WAEC plans to expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports to support candidates. These reports will offer detailed feedback on common mistakes and guidance on improving exam performance.
“We’ve ensured widespread awareness of this program through banners, our website, and the results checker platform so students and parents can take full advantage of it,” Mr. Kapi noted.
Candidates with cancelled results are also eligible to register for the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they are not serving a ban for malpractice.
“For now, the exams will be held in regional capitals due to the limited number of participants. We urge candidates to complete their registration by January 8th to seize this opportunity,” Kapi added.
WAEC expressed confidence that the initiative will help students improve their grades quickly, enabling them to meet admission requirements for the next academic cycle and avoid delays in their educational progress.
