PDP Crisis
  • The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed confidence in winning more state governorships and reclaiming federal leadership during the 2027 elections
  • PDP leaders highlighted widespread dissatisfaction with the ruling APC, positioning their party as the viable alternative for Nigerians seeking change

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its ability to produce more state governors and reclaim governance at the federal level during the 2027 elections.

This assertion was made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Sunday during a visit to Governor Douye Diri at his residence in Sampou, Bayelsa State.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, National Treasurer Alhaji Ahmed Yayare highlighted widespread dissatisfaction across Nigeria caused by ongoing economic hardships.

He stated that this discontent positions the PDP as the only viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP can and will produce the president and vice president in 2027,” Yayare said. “The cry of hunger and poverty is overwhelming. Nigerians in all 36 states are yearning for the PDP’s return. The APC can’t even campaign without facing backlash.”

He further urged PDP governors to unite and work towards the party’s success in 2027.

The PDP’s National Secretary, Ude Okoye, emphasized the party’s determination to reposition itself as the leading opposition capable of providing quality leadership.

He commended Governor Diri’s developmental achievements in Bayelsa, describing them as a source of pride for the party.

“The NWC is committed to strengthening the PDP and showcasing it as the alternative Nigerians can trust,” Okoye stated.

Governor Diri called on PDP governors to prioritize unity and collaboration. He urged them to resolve internal disputes through consensus rather than litigation.

“PDP must remain united as the only viable opposition party,” Diri said. “We can’t allow political considerations to lead us astray. If PDP falters under our watch, history will judge us harshly.”

Diri also supported the idea of forming a coalition with the PDP at its core to reclaim power at the national level. He warned against disloyalty, stating, “If anyone feels bigger than the party, they are free to leave.

PDP has given us this platform, and we must strengthen it to salvage Nigeria from its current challenges.”

The NWC also extended condolences to Governor Diri over the recent deaths of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Moses Jituboh and Women Affairs Commissioner Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.
