- Jiddere emphasizes the forum’s non-partisan mission to foster unity and national development in his acceptance speech following the appointment
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has announced the appointment of Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere as its new spokesperson.
The appointment, approved by the Convener and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Ango Abdullahi, reflects Jiddere’s proven competence and commitment to advancing the interests of Northern Nigeria.
On Wednesday, the Chairman of the NEF Management Board, A. M. Al-Amin Daggash (rtd), described Professor Jiddere as a distinguished academic with a history of excellence and dedication.
Jiddere takes over from Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, who has been reassigned as Director of NGOs and CSOs for the NEF.
In his acceptance speech, Jiddere expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to uphold the forum’s mission.
“I humbly accept my new appointment and responsibility as the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum. The forum remains a non-partisan organisation dedicated to articulating Northern Nigeria’s collective interests while fostering unity and national development. I pray for Allah’s guidance and protection throughout my tenure and beyond,” Jiddere said.
The NEF emphasized its role as a unifying, non-partisan body advocating for Northern Nigeria’s development while collaborating with other regions to ensure national progress.
Addressing speculation about internal discord, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman clarified in a separate statement that the appointment and role changes were procedural and not a result of any internal conflict.
“We are a united and cohesive body committed to the development of Northern Nigeria. The adjustments in roles are part of procedural changes and do not reflect any deviation from our core principles or unity,” the statement read.
