Dimeji Bankole loses mum

...Gov Abiodun mourns

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, on Friday lost his mother Monsurat Bankole.

Until her death, she was the Iya Adinni of Egbaland.

The 78-year-old died after a brief illness.

Consultant to the Ogun State Governor on Islamic Affairs, Sheik Iskeel Lawal, announced her death in a statement.

The statement said the deceased dedicated her life to serving Islam and her community.

Apart from founding Al Mönsur Islamic Society during her lifetime, she also held the Islamic title of Iya Sunnah of Alasalatu Society of Nigeria and West Africa.

According to the announcement, her burial will take place in accordance with Islamic rites immediately after Solatul-Asr prayers on Friday at her late husband’s residence in Onikoko, Abeokuta.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has since commiserated with Bankole over his mother’s death.

Abiodun, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described the late matriarch of the Bankole family as an amazon of note and a devout Muslim.

The governor also described the deceased as a great leader who contributed immensely to the development of her community while also serving as a pillar of the Bankole family.

He prayed for the repose of her soul and the fortitude for her immediate family to bear the irreparable loss.

He said: “It is indeed heartbreaking to lose yet another distinguished woman of strength and integrity in Ogun State, following the recent loss of Mrs Adebisi Edionseri (Cash Madam).

”However, we find comfort in the legacy of piety and humanitarian service that she has left behind.

“She was not only a proud mother but also a steadfast pillar of support for her husband, Chief Alani Bankole. May God Almighty grant her Al Jannah Firdaus.”

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has expressed condolences to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, over the death of his mother.
