Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during a recent terrorist attack in Damboa, Borno State. He described these brave individuals as eternal heroes whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja, Shettima expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He also pledged unwavering support to the grieving families, highlighting the soldiers’ valour and commitment to defending the nation.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the six courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in Damboa,” said Shettima in a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha. “Their bravery in the face of danger protected countless fellow citizens.”

The attack occurred in Sabon Gari when terrorists attempted to ambush troops stationed at a Forward Operating Base. The soldiers’ swift and decisive response, reinforced by air support from Operation HADIN KAI, neutralized 34 terrorists.

They also recovered weapons and ammunition, weakening the attackers’ capabilities.

Vice President Shettima praised the troops for their heroic efforts. “Their sacrifices remind us of the high cost of peace and security,” he noted. “These heroes ensured that their fellow Nigerians can live safely, free from insecurity.”

He reassured the affected families that their loved ones’ sacrifices were not in vain. “Their memory will inspire future generations, and their contributions will forever be etched in our nation’s history,” Shettima affirmed.

Addressing the military, Shettima expressed profound gratitude for their dedication. “Your commitment to protecting citizens, even at great personal risk, commands our deepest respect. We will continue providing the resources you need to carry out your duties,” he stated.

The Vice President also called on Nigerians to honour the fallen heroes and remain united in their pursuit of peace and security.

“May Allah grant our fallen heroes Aljannah Firdaus and comfort their families,” he prayed, “and give us all the strength to bear this loss.”
