- Condemns act
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has explained why the police detained a policeman over alleged naira abuse committed by Subomi and Wahab, the sons of billionaire industrialist, Chief Razaq Okoya.
He gave the explanation in an X post on Saturday.
In a post on Friday, Adejobi disclosed that a policeman who appeared in a video shared by Okoya’s sons, where they allegedly abused the naira, was identified and detained for disciplinary action.
In the video which went viral last week, the policeman can be seen holding wads of naira notes as Okoya’s sons dance and throw some naira notes into the air.
Adejobi said the policeman’s action was unethical.
However, many Nigerians raised concerns over the detention of the policeman while the main culprits walked freely.
An X user, @OlisaIzukanne said the policeman must have been attached to Okoya’s family which necessitated his appearance in the video, advising against punishing him for simply doing his job.
In Saturday’s post, Adejobi disclosed that the policeman was posted on guard duty at Okoya’s Eleganza company and not as an aide or escort to the billionaire’s sons.
He said, “An act or omission could be criminal and punishable. The policeman has failed to act as an officer.
“He was never attached to the young men. He was to be on duty at the Eleganza company on guard duty, not as an aide or escort.
“So what was he doing with them where they made the shots? Is it his job to carry the money??
“A serious-minded policeman should discourage the commissioning of an offence, which he failed to do.
“The NPF has acted professionally on his case. So let your argument on the matter be objective, as the police won’t tolerate illegal duty, indecency, and any act of criminality from its personnel.
“We all deserve a more respected and professional police force in Nigeria.”
