- FCT Minister Nyesom Wike criticized former Minister Solomon Dalung, labeling his tenure as Youth and Sports Minister a monumental disaster
- Wike defended road construction projects in the FCT, countering Dalung’s claims that they are insignificant to development and connectivity
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized the tenure of former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, calling it a monumental disaster.
Wike’s remarks were in response to Dalung’s recent statement dismissing the construction of roads in the FCT as insignificant to development.
The FCT Minister described Dalung’s comments as evidence of a “desperate need for help by a mind transitioning from psychology to psychosis.”
In a statement released on Friday by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike accused Dalung of being blinded by hatred for him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Dalung, whose tenure as Minister of Youth and Sports was monumentally disastrous, even claimed that road construction does not signify development because many Nigerians do not own vehicles,” the statement read.
Wike noted that Dalung’s tenure saw Nigeria fail to qualify consecutively for the Nations Cup. He questioned Dalung’s logic, stating that essential road projects benefit all citizens, regardless of vehicle ownership.
Wike highlighted several critical projects, including the construction of the Saburi–Dei Dei road, the 5km Dutse-Usuma Dam road, the 25km Kwaita/Yebu road, and others in the Bwari and Kwali Area Councils.
He emphasized that these developments would enhance connectivity and quality of life for residents in both urban and satellite communities.
The statement recalled incidents from Dalung’s time as minister, including comments about unpreparedness for the Super Falcons’ success during the 2016 African Women Championship. It delayed funding for the Nigerian soccer team at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Wike concluded by expressing concern over Dalung’s remarks and urged those close to him to address what he described as clear signs of a need for mental health support.
