The Nigerian Army, in joint operations with other security agencies, has destroyed 32 illegal refineries, deactivated 14 boats, and arrested 15 suspects involved in oil theft in the Niger Delta.

A statement revealed that the week-long operation (January 6-12, 2025) also led to the recovery of over 60,000 litres of stolen crude oil and petroleum products.

In Rivers State, seven illegal refining sites with 20,000 litres of stolen crude were dismantled in Degema, while 10 sites were deactivated along the Imo River, with over 19,000 litres recovered.

Troops intercepted three boats carrying 12,000 litres in Etche and seized 2,800 litres of stolen crude and gas oil in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Asari-Toru LGAs. A Toyota bus loaded with 1,200 litres of stolen condensates was also confiscated.
