- Recall that Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared winner of the off-cycle election in September 21, 2024.

As the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal reconvened today, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its bid to overturn Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
This stance was outlined in a communiqué issued after a meeting attended by the party’s leadership and governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
According to the communiqué signed by Hon Henry Tenebe, secretary of the Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, the meeting was convened by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of the State Caretaker Committee.
The communiqué stated: “After thorough discussions on the party’s and Edo State’s affairs, the following resolutions were adopted:
“The party reiterated its determination to reclaim the mandate given to it by the people of Edo State in the last governorship election.
“It appealed for continuous support and prayers from party faithful and Edo State residents as PDP and its candidate navigate this challenging journey.
“The meeting acknowledged and appreciated the dedication, loyalty, and commitment of party members and supporters across Edo State, urging them to persist in their support and prayers for the party and its leadership.
“The attendees expressed deep concern over Edo State’s current state under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, noting significant setbacks in recent months.
“The PDP reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and constitutional democracy in the state, emphasizing the importance of law, order, and security for Edo State’s and Nigeria’s peace, progress, and development.
“The party Chairmen unanimously expressed implicit confidence in Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and Dr. Asue Ighodalo, commending their exceptional leadership and efforts in guiding the party’s affairs in the state, fostering unity and progress within the Edo State PDP chapter.”
