- Key measures include installing waste bins in buses, tricycles, motor parks, and bus stops to reduce littering
The Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has partnered with the Ministries of Transportation and Commerce to enhance waste management across the state.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative at Kwari Market, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, said the programme aims to make Kano cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally friendly.
Key measures include installing waste bins in buses, tricycles, motor parks, and bus stops to reduce littering.
The programme also introduces designated waste disposal points in markets and industrial areas, with support from market associations and business operators.
Street sweepers have also been redeployed to strategic locations in the city, and their salary arrears are being cleared.
Hashim described the initiative as crucial for public health and urban beautification, reflecting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
