  • Governor Bala Mohammed clarified that his critiques of federal policies are constructive feedback, not politically motivated, aimed at improving governance
  • He emphasized the need for broad consultations on policies affecting Nigerians and praised President Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and engagement

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has clarified that his critical assessments of certain federal government policies are not politically motivated but rooted in constructive feedback.

The governor responded following comments by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.

In a statement issued by Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the governor emphasized his consistent support for policies that benefit the nation while offering constructive criticism when improvements are necessary.

According to the statement, Governor Mohammed’s critique of the Tax Reform Bills is informed by his extensive experience as a former Federal Capital Territory Minister, current second-term governor, and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

His hands-on understanding of governance challenges and macroeconomic policies underscores the importance of inclusive decision-making.

“Policies affecting millions of Nigerians cannot be imposed without broad-based consultation. In a constitutional democracy, the President must engage stakeholders, build consensus, and consider diverse viewpoints.

Governor Mohammed’s comments serve as a reminder of this responsibility, not a challenge to the President’s authority,” the statement read.

Governor Mohammed acknowledged President Tinubu’s historical role as a pro-democracy activist, noting that his bold stance against anti-democratic forces helped shape his political journey.

“President Tinubu, even as Lagos State Governor, stood against anti-democratic military dictatorship and fought to democratize local governance,” Mohammed highlighted.

The statement criticized Mr. Dare for unprovoked attacks on Governor Mohammed, calling for professionalism and diplomacy as a media adviser.

“His position requires fostering unity and supporting the President’s vision rather than sowing division and distraction from pressing national issues,” it added.

The governor reiterated his respect for the Office of the President but stressed that respect does not preclude constructive critique in a democracy. “Dialogue strengthens democracy, not intimidation.

The President’s media team must recognize that dissent is an opportunity for progress, not a threat,” the statement concluded.
