The House of Representatives has said it will prioritise the passage of the the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills despite the controversies the latter has elicited.

The speaker of the house, Abbas Tajudeen, made this known while speaking at plenary after the resumption of the House from the Christmas and new year recess.

He implored lawmakers involved in budget review and scrutiny to perform their tasks thoroughly and meticulously.

Abbas also urged other lawmaker to perform their legislative priorities diligently and ensure that every proposal aligns with national objectives and delivers tangible benefits to the citizenry.

Abbas, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, noted that the appropriation bill and the tax reform bills are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

He said: “The legislative agenda of the House for 2025 prioritises the passage of the Appropriation Bill and the Tax Reform Bills, both of which are pivotal to economic recovery and fiscal stability.

“These reforms are essential for broadening the tax base, improving compliance and reducing dependency on external borrowing.

“The House will ensure that these reforms are equitable and considerate of the needs of all Nigerians, particularly the most vulnerable.”

He was of the opinion that the planned Citizens’ Town Hall on the budget would further reinforce transparency and inclusivity in our decision-making processes.
