- He said that the party was awaiting the electoral guidelines from the newly reconstituted Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
- The spokesperson said that the party members should all continue to promote activities that would engender party cohesion and understanding.
The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied instructing incumbent Local Government (LG) chairmen seeking reelection to step down before the 2025 council elections.
In a statement on Monday, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo described the alleged directive as fabricated news aimed at deceiving the public and party faithful.
Oladejo explained that the actual directive requires APC local government party chairmen seeking elective offices to resign, as they cannot simultaneously hold impartial and participatory roles.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen, who intend to seek re-election to resign from their offices,” the statement reads.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher.
“The local government party chairmen, who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released.
“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat up the polity.”
The APC spokesperson emphasized that the party is awaiting electoral guidelines from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), urging members to foster unity and cohesion through various activities.
