Police officer in Kebbi turns down N1m bribe from suspectser bandits

The police spokesperson that the suspects conspired to offer the bribe at the premises of the state criminal investigation department in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.


The Kebbi State Police Command reported an incident where an officer rejected a substantial bribe offer of N1,000,000 from suspects.

A statement issued by CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the Command’s spokesperson, revealed details of the incident. “On January 13, 2025, around 6:00 PM, Umaru Garba, 53, from Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman, 51, from Maimaichi village, both in Arewa LGA, and Usman Muhammadu, 50, from Bakaramba village in Argungu LGA, conspired to offer a bribe.

They attempted to bribe the Command’s lead investigator at the State Criminal Investigation Department, State Headquarters, Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi, with N1,000,000.”

The bribe attempt aimed to undermine the investigation into a banditry case involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists operating in northern Kebbi State.

Following the incident, the suspects were promptly apprehended, and an investigation is currently underway. Upon completion, they will face charges in court.

CP Bello M. Sani, Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, commended the detectives for their dedication and professionalism, encouraging other officers to emulate their example.

The Command reiterated its commitment to combating banditry and other serious crimes, promoting socio-economic development in Kebbi State.
