The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a pregnant woman detained by the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in Okija, following accusations by her husband that she stole undisclosed items.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the woman’s detention came to light after a video of the incident circulated online.

CP Itam condemned the vigilante group’s actions, describing the detention and alleged mistreatment as unprofessional. He vowed to address the issue and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
The police assured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice and holding accountable any vigilante members found guilty of misconduct.
