Chelsea have recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
The 25-year-old will strengthen Chelsea’s defence after Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile suffered hamstring injuries, limiting manager Enzo Maresca’s options.
The decision to recall Chalobah was made on Tuesday, the day before Palace’s Premier League match at Leicester, ahead of a deadline to use the clause later this month.
The move may be viewed as controversial, given that Palace had to withdraw Chalobah from their 1-0 FA Cup victory over Stockport County on Sunday.
Chalobah was a regular starter at Selhurst Park, making 14 appearances over his four-and-a-half-month spell in south London.
