  • Governor Abiodun stated that the Corps would work closely with other security agencies

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has authorised the recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel for the Amotekun Corps to bolster security across the state.

The move comes as part of the governor’s commitment to ensure Ogun does not become a safe haven for criminals.

Governor Abiodun made the announcement on Saturday during the passing-out parade of 690 Batch D Amotekun trainees at the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu. He pledged to provide the Corps with more resources, including additional patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other tools to enhance their operational effectiveness.

“This will bring the total strength of the Corps to over 2,000, and they will be remunerated in line with the civil service structure,” the governor said.

He emphasised that the establishment of the Amotekun Corps was not only aimed at strengthening security, particularly at the grassroots level, but also at addressing the state’s unemployment challenges.

Governor Abiodun stated that the Corps would work closely with other security agencies to combat criminal activities, patrolling key roads and communities across the state. He further cautioned criminals, saying that Ogun would no longer serve as a refuge for unlawful activities.

“Amotekun is a warning to criminals that Ogun State will not be a haven for their activities,” he remarked, expressing confidence that the new recruits would improve security significantly.

The governor commended the discipline and conduct of the trainees and urged them to carry out their duties with integrity, prioritising intelligence gathering and community collaboration over harassment.

Abiodun also praised the efforts of the pioneer Commander of the Corps for laying a solid foundation, calling on residents to support Amotekun by providing vital information to prevent crime.
