The Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has expressed deep sympathy for the Government and people of Niger State following a tragic petrol tanker explosion at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Nneamaka Okafor, the Minister described the incident, which claimed several lives and left others injured, as a heartbreaking tragedy.

“I am deeply saddened by this event. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and I pray for the souls of the departed to find eternal rest. May God grant their families the fortitude to bear this loss,” he said.

Sen. Lokpobiri also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and called for national solidarity during this difficult time.

Highlighting the need for improved safety measures, he urged citizens to exercise caution during accidents involving petrol-laden tankers, emphasizing the significant risks involved. “Lives are too precious to be lost unnecessarily,” he added.

The Minister revealed that he has directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to investigate the incident and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safer petroleum transportation.

“This tragedy underscores the importance of collective responsibility. Government, transport operators, and citizens must work together to prioritize safety in petroleum distribution,” he stated.

He assured Niger State of the Ministry’s support, reiterating his commitment to promoting safety and well-being in petroleum operations nationwide.
