Olufunsho Dayo Chevy and Uwem Udo Nya, who were found guilty of oil theft and given a N20 million punishment, have been directed to pay N5 million each into the Federal Government’s account.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Command, achieved the conviction and sentencing of Chevy and Nya for oil theft, coupled with a firm, Edi Eurolink Distribution, and a vessel, MT New Angel.
The inmates who were taken into custody by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory and turned over to the EFCC on July 30, 2024, entered guilty pleas to the charge in court, according to a press release released by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale on Friday.
Oyewale stated that the convicts were sentenced by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court Calabar on a one-count charge bordering on stealing and unlicensed dealing on petroleum products.
